The office--season 3 ryan dougherty '09 the office is making people remember the good old days of thursday nights on nbc, when seinfeld and friends dominated the sitcom scene. after winning an emmy and leaving viewers with a romantic cliffhanger at the end of last season, the first five episodes of the third season are evidence of a show hitting its stride. jim has transferred to a different branch of dunder mifflin in connecticut, which has its own quirky and idiosyncratic staff. the highlight of the new cast is unquestionably ed helms, who, like steve carell, is a daily show alum. from coining cheesy office nicknames "big tuna" ; to singing along to "lovefool" by the cardigans, he is the quintessential "that guy" from any office that you've ever worked in. back in the scranton branch, little has changed--which isn't a bad thing. from an indian cultural festival to an office supply convention, the crew at dunder mifflin is keeping audiences laughing. ryan has been promoted from temp to permanent salesperson, which has created a new dynamic between him and the nit-picking, nerdy, and hilarious dwight. in perhaps the best episode of the season, dwight plans a fraternity-esque initiation in honor of ryan's first sales call complete with coffin, farm animals, and a beet farm. there is also a brief phone conversation between pam and jim, thus keeping the door open for a future romance. something, however, appears to be brewing between him and his attractive new officemate, while pam's ex-fianc is also trying to win her back. if you need to catch up on all of these developments, all third season episodes of the office are available on itunes. my name is earl--season 2 aaron kleinman '09 if the office is nbc's thursday night shot of tequila--a cutting satire that at once delights and sickens--then my name is earl is the nice cold beer that gets the buzz going. the show, winner of last year's emmy for best writing, is a pleasant and enjoyable 30 minutes that make up some of the most good-hearted if occasionally lowbrow humor does two guys dancing in a strobe-lit room to "mr. roboto" count as lowbrow? ; on television. the protagonist, earl hickey jason lee, sporting the best mustache on television since magnum, p.i. went off the air ; is a small-time crook who, after discovering the meaning of karma, decides to right all the wrongs in his life. it might be sloppy theology, but the writing is crisp. the solutions to restoring karmic balance usually involve ingenious plot twists and the episodes move so quickly you're amazed that it's already time for the office when earl is over. the show's second season has done a good job picking up where the award-winning first left off. its strength is its ability to incorporate oddball characters, from an eccentric strip club owner played by burt reynolds the only choice if you have an eccentric strip club owner on your show ; to a bearded woman who moonlights as a realtor. combined with the inventive plotlines, the characters in earl's world are making thursday nights on nbc must-see again. grey's anatomy--season 3 allison barra '09 the third season of grey's anatomy is shaping up to be fierce battle of angst-ridden love affairs, grieving hearts, and intriguing questions of medical ethics. the second-season cliffhanger left us with multiple questions: will meredith pick derek or finn; will burke be able to perform surgery again; will izzie practice medicine again? in the first few episodes, we have seen resolution to most of these issues: derek and addision's shamble of a marriage finally ended following the exciting return of the dirty mistress, mcsteamy. the derek and meredith saga continues, and, after ditching finn the vet, meredith is now once again pining away for mcdreamy. the other interns are also enduring love crises of their own. christina is now assisting burke in surgery, covering for the recurring injury to his hand by attempting procedures she is not technically allowed to perform. george cannot seem to assert his manhood in the face of vixen bone-breaker, dr. torres. izzie returns to work after inheriting a cool eight million from her deceased fianc, denny, whose l-vat wire she cut in a futile attempt to save his life with a heart transplant. after a brief muffin-baking frenzy, izzie seems ready to get back to surgery. viewers are also getting a more human dr. bailey this season, after she withstood quite a lashing at an m&m conference. this season looks to be more provocative and poignant than the last, so tune in every thursday at 9 p.m. on abc, or online during class on friday mornings clearly 1ls only ; . lost--season 3 kristin b. powell '09 despite its ostensibly slow start, not even an 18-page memo and by 18, i mean 20-40 ; can keep me away from season 3 of lost. the season began on what we thought was the other side of the island, where the others were keeping jack, sawyer, and kate in old animal cages. we have caught a glimpse into the lives of the others--our old friend henry gale, now known as ben, appears to be their leader; they have contact with the outside world i was personally thrilled that their proof of this was footage of the red sox winning the world series at least one has been on the island his entire life. we have been introduced to new characters, most notably juliette. what keeps viewers coming back to lost is the need for answers. who are the others? how do they know so much about the survivors of oceanic flight 815? why won't they leave the island? what is was? ; the dharma initiative? what went wrong? have michael and walt been saved? where is alex rousseau? will we see penelope widmore again? what exactly is smokey the monster? have we forgotten about the numbers? these are only some of the questions we were left with at the end of season 2 that season 3 has yet to address, much less answer. yet i keep going back. maybe i'm an optimist. maybe i have terrible taste in tv. or maybe i just have nothing better to do with my wednesday nights. in any case, the recent and sudden death of mr. eko is the first real turning point of the new season and doubtful the last. continuing on its current path, lost will continue to dominate the thursday morning water cooler!

The grand sierra resort's lodge buffet started out a few years ago when the hilton opened it as the grand canyon buffet ; as being not very good at all, with very uneven food quality and limited selections, especially considering the size of the resort it was serving. however, they have steadily improved it over the years and i now comfortably placing it in the three diamond category, with a large selection of good quality food. john ascuaga's rotisserie buffet brings up the rear of the three diamond buffets, barely staying out of the top of the two diamond category. as i've said elsewhere, there is certainly nothing wrong with this buffet. it has a fine if fairly limited ; selection and the food quality is excellent. however, while so many other casinos have expanded and renovated their buffets over the past couple of decades, the rotisserie is exactly the same as it was nearly 20 years ago. heck, it's probably the exact same menu. The p800 includes a sophisticated chess application which includes the ability to play remotely with another player over sms. players are created by selecting them from contacts or giving them local names within the chess application. players may be: local computer ; play against the p800, selecting a suitable skill level. local human ; 2 players can use the p800 as a chess board. remote human ; play against another person, exchanging moves using sms. each move is timed and a list of moves may be viewed. it is possible to step backwards and forwards through a game. each game is given a name and it may be suspended and saved at any time. the user may therefore have a number of games stored at any time, moving between them as required. chess is pre-loaded into the user storage area. it may be uninstalled to make more space. it is included on the multimedia for p800 cd for later re-installation.
