| The day started out great - we awoke to a lovely sunrise on top of pigeon mountain. we got up and cooked our breakfast and headed down the mountain to sign in and park for our trip to flowing stone cave. the gang this day was chuck constable, steve sills, dirk siron, chris davis, hazard and me. we'd been told that it was easy to find. all we had to do was follow the flagged trail and avoid the quarry property. we parked and chuck, steve, hazard and i headed off to the trail. after crossing the dam, we realized dirk and chris were not along. chuck and steve headed off up the mountain at the first flagging they saw and i was right behind them. unfortunately this wasn't the correct flagging. ; hazard volunteered to wait for dirk and chris. i tried to "hang back" so they could see me while keeping chuck and steve in sight. before long we were totally separated. chuck and steve were gone and the others weren't behind me. with the help of radio communication i learned that chuck and steve had found the correct flagging. the others were somewhere to our left which was ok since the quarry was to our right. i asked chuck and steve to slow up so i could catch up to them. just as i caught sight of them some distance ahead i got a radio call from dirk that he had found the correct trail. soon we came to a road where we regrouped. it was easy to avoid the quarry property because they had big no trespassing signs at intervals closer together than the flagging on the trail we were following. we'd been told that you followed the road a short distance and looked for the flagging to the left. chuck and steve were still in the lead and turned into the woods at some "flagging" and the rest of us followed like lemmings. the flagging was no longer consistent. yellow caution tape here, blue tape there, pink tape here, orange tape there, we kept walking up the mountain following the multicolored tape. soon we were in an area "covered up" with karst features and random flagging. everyone was again scattered. finally four of us gathered in one spot and waited for the other two to find us. we remembered that groups had been looking around the area for other caves and for salamanders so we guessed they'd left all this multicolored tape. once all were together again we decided to pull out the "big guns" the gps. steve had some coordinates but they weren't in the right format for his gps. dirk said he could convert them with his gps. gps units confuse me as there are several different formats for reporting the coordinates. ; finally after much consultation steve and dirk had their gps units programed. the cave was 0.6 miles to our left they said. we started walking and the gps said we were getting farther away. oops, maybe it was the other way. we started walking again this time in the other direction. ok, we were back where we started. finally after walking 0.6 miles, much of it back down hill, we arrived at our objective. a piece of flagging tape stretched above the entrance hole had a message. "do not drop rocks. fragile walls and floor." this must be the place. looking around we found the flagged trail leading straight to the pit. it was well after 2 by this time. steve and dirk rigged the pit. it had been highly recommended to us that we should rig with a pigtail to a slight ledge about 10 feet down to allow us to negotiate the tight spots in the entrance without 200 feet of rope pulling you into the cracks. chuck went first, followed by steve and chris. the plan was for them to climb out and then the rest of us would do it. dirk and hazard went next. i decided to let them come out and just "bounce it" since the cave was quite drippy on this day and i hadn't come prepared with proper attire to sit wet at the bottom of the pit while two people climbed 200 feet. the entrance is not the most pleasant i've ever done. chris had climbed out on the main rope rather than changing to the pigtail and steve suggested that i might save time by just going in on the main rope instead of going down the pigtail and changing over. i unfortunately listened to his suggestion; i managed to get in but it wasn't easy. the weight of the rope kept pulling me into a crack. finally, i was past the constriction and i had a pleasant trip down to the bottom. i got off rope and walked around on the flagged trails checking out the bottom of the pit. it was very beautiful and very wet; the flagged trails were under water. from the bottom looking up you can see where the name "flowing stone" came from. it is one of the prettiest pits i've ever done. the water flowing down the walls of the pit made it even more beautiful. i rigged onto the rope and started my climb out. the climb is mostly against the flowstone wall. if you go there, take care not to get your boots muddy at the bottom so you don't mar the flowstone with mud as you climb. by the time i got out it was dusk. while the guys de-rigged the pit i got out of my gear and changed into dry clothing did i mention it was a cold january day ; . by the time the pit was de-rigged it was almost dark. fortunately the flagging tape on the trail was of the reflective type and we were able to easily follow the trail back to the dam. we quickly loaded up our gear and headed off caravan style for camping with some caver friends back in alabama. it sure was good to get the heat going in the truck to get the chill out of my toes.

The below is by rob flickenger, who is explaining andrew clapp's yagi "cantenna", which involves using a pringles potato chip container and about .00 worth of material to build an antenna with 12db to 15db gain. the purpose was to expand the reach of a standard computer wireless network. despite the disclaimer, the yagi "cantenna" has been successfully tested by several people. mr. flickenger used the "cantenna" to boost the wireless signal from his work to his home, which was a bit more than half a mile away. standard disclaimer: anything you do with your gear is your responsibility. this is a stupid idea that will probably ruin your radio, set your house on fire, bring the fcc to your door, ruin your crops, and send famine and pestilence across the land. and as the operator, it is your responsibility to not take the word of some raving lunatic on the web with funny colored hair, and find things out for yourself. your mileage will vary. i'm probably lying. you have been warned. if you would like detailed instructions on the "cantenna", click the gamers & tech tab at whitecourt and poker tournament.

History of computing for computer science and information systems students" chapter 10 ; and "resources for a course on the history of computing" chapt er 27 ; . introduction to computers and information course as mentioned earlier, the content of the introduction to computers and information course has changed dramatically from the early 1980s to the present. twenty years ago we focused on how the machine operated, how to program it to do useful work, the systems analysis process--used to create computer applications--and a few management of computing issues such as security and privacy. the introduction and widespread use of personal computers in the mid-1980s has pushed much of that material to the margins of such courses, and significant amounts of time are now spent teaching students to use word processors, spreadsheets, database packages, and the tools of the internet and world wide web. this applications-oriented material now dominates such courses, but students are still better off if we can give them some insight into how a computer works and how sophisticated applications programs are created. although many readers will think that this is unimportant, i believe that we can create better computer users if we can take the mystery out of personal computing. indeed, the use of artifacts in the classroom, "show-and-tell" if you will, is a powerful teaching tool that makes this sometimes invisible and obscure technology real, as mentioned in the early parts of this paper. as stated above, the textbook publishers provide exam-generation software with questions keyed to the textbook. using one of these, you can create a multiple choice exam in an hour.119 one of the things that i do is put a part ii on the midterm exam after we have covered the hardware material ; that states: you have a job over the semester break, and in conversation you mentioned that you had this terrific computer class last semester! you boss wants to purchase a new computer for his home and he wants you to explain the advertisement on the previous page. your boss isn't the brightest bulb in the pack, so be clear, concise and thorough. note: this question is worth 20 points ; most students can explain the ever-present advertisements in the newspapers, but do they really understand the jargon? can they explain it to someone else's satisfaction like the parents paying upwards of 0, 000 for four years of college ; ? a recent advertisement for a dell computer dellforme ; advertised a computer with: an intel pentium 4 processor with ht technology operating at ; 3.40 ghz using an ; 800 mhz front side bus and an intel 875p chipset with ich5r. another advertisement offered and poker books.
Now, if you just look at the success of buying dips in isolation, you will find it works as buying in general has worked for a long while. however, to evaluate if there is any content to the idea of buying dips, as opposed to just buying, you must show that after dips it is a better time than normal to buy i.e., that it is an effective type of short-term market timing ; . you must show that what you gain or lose from being on the sidelines waiting for a dip, is more than made up for by your extra returns after buying a dip. otherwise, you are just arguing again to invest more in stocks an interesting, but separate argument ; . although buying the dips is a simple short-term market timing strategy, i have not seen it analyzed as such i.e., fairly judging whether can you do better buying the dips than an equivalently risky strategy ; and i would be interested in seeing such a study it might even work ; . in my opinion, too many dip buyers think they are in fact value players, only their valuation model is not based on p es irrs. their valuation model consists of "if a stock or market has dipped below its all-time high, it is cheap!!" this "buy the dip" mentality may indeed have contributed to the stability of equities we have seen for a few years as any dip is quickly erased. if permanent, it could mean equities really are less risky going forward and also that their expected returns really are permanently lower ; . on the other hand, if only temporary, much like an infection not quite killed by an antibiotic, every dip that comes roaring back might make things far worse in the end. finally, if i hear one more person refer to buying a 200 p e stock, that is up 200% in the last year, but is down 5% from its closing high two days ago, as "bargain hunting", i might have to start doing some hunting of my own. "we have heard the bears wrongly scream `over-valued' for so long now" finally, failing all else, we can forget arguing the merits and just laugh at the bearish for being wrong for so long. well, as you might guess, there are several logical flaws with this plan but, of course, it can still be pursued for pure entertainment purposes ; . it has really not been that long. it was only in december of 1997 that p es from my first figure ; crossed their former high of september of 1929, and in fact only in january of 1995 when they crossed and remained above 20. while 3-5 years may seem like a very long time it certainly does to me ; , it not. in terms of markets, 3-5 years is a blip of time. one can certainly argue with the thesis that equities are overvalued, but a legitimate argument is not "you have been saying this for three years now." if one believes that we are in a bubble, then that argument simply uses the mania to justify itself. argue the merits of the case going forward, but not the recent returns, as over short periods, returns are basically random. furthermore, once you admit the possibility that the stock market can become overvalued, it becomes very difficult to discuss what limits there are on this overvaluation again, short-term market timing is difficult ; . neither the bulls nor the bears, if things should turn their way for only a short period, should point to recent returns as an indication that they are right regarding valuation and poker accessories.

Single song that i have just heard and buy it, and then rip it ? or will i go to room, turn my computer on and launch apple itunes or any p2p software to download directly the digital song ? 25 % of the french web surfers admit to use p2p network : can we still call this massive phenomena "piracy" or a deep change in consumption methods ?4 money is not the main driver for file swapping online : in france the proportion of persons using p2p network is the same among those who earn less than 00 per month and those who earn more than 00 per month. in the price of a cd, almost half of it are distribution and marketing costs5. are consumers willing to pay for costs that represent no value to their eyes ? on the contrary, the success of apple itunes that delivers good quality songs shows that consumers are willing to pay for valuable services : consumers are looking for an easy-to-use and friendly music store6. in this case, an intermediate makes sense. an illustration of this statement is the fact that payments on the internet are more and more developed : 16 % of american surfers have used a fee-based downloading platform in 2003 compared to 8 % in 2002. this expansion is parallel to user-friendly and cheap online music stores. otherwise, there is no reason not to pick up songs directly from p2p networks. the value delivered by music majors few years ago is disappearing. having good quality music on cd format has less value today than having digital music "on the go". by offering services such as edition of library, rapid downloads, information about artists and concerts, organization of musical events and a free thirty-second preview of any song, the apple music store creates value for consumers. it has set itself as a valuable intermediate. otherwise consumers will overlap any intermediate that does not meet their requirements tomorrow the distribution of movies might face the same issue : when home theater devices will all include a hard drive, the value represented by.

Meanwhile, the 60-seat indian restaurant fire and bar agni were themed on the element of fire, the life giving force. the design ethos of the adjacent spaces conveys the dynamics and movement of fire, which can be calm, fierce, warm and hot. the restaurant is separated from the lobby by a white sculptured plaster wall and sliding glass doors. a row of ceiling recessed low-voltage adjustable luminaires accent this focal wall. the elegant lobby space, with a pale limestone floor, has been designed to operate equally well by day or night. at night, the room is lighted by an array of clear lamps hanging in clusters above the tables and a family of bronze floor lamps. recessed low-voltage adjustable mr16 luminaires accent the seating along the firewall pinspotting each table. the indirect light from color-changing leds within the curved wall simulate fire and give a dynamic charisma to the space. during the day, the space is lighted by a combination of natural diffused daylight passing through frosted window walls and yellow cove lights in the ceiling. the challenge here was to simulate the effect of fire for the curved wall dividing the restaurant and the bar. this effect was achieved using leds controlled by color sequencers on adjustable speed. leds are sandwiched between three layers of printed perspex panels with slightly different flame patterns, illuminating the panels from the bottom. the three layers introduce depth to the display and offer an opportunity to adjust the timing of the color change. each layer is illuminated with a different flame color at any given time, giving it an animated effect. the interior of the agni bar lounge area is warm and vibrant, with dark walnut finishes. a radiant orange wall.

This past october has been an unbelievable month. we had two weekends of great surf in a row. i was fortunate enough to make it to seaside heights for the grudge match, took a road trip to long island, and scored great surf in nj with excellent light and surfers to shoot photos. the grudge match pits garden state pro and surfers against each other for bragging rights for the year. over the course of the day, i had to opportunity to talk with some of the competitors, many of whom i know personally. maybe the most impressive was dean randazzo. deans been around the world, surfed some of the most perfect waves and was on the world championship tour, but was so amped just to surf here in nj. i think he said the surf was "ridiculous". randy townsend pulled into several backside barrels, similar to what ive seen him do probably hundreds of times at his beloved cape may ave on lbi. jamie moran showed that his recent trip to the somoa helped his barrel riding talents as he blew minds pulling into wave after wave along the north side of the casino pier. everyone put in a good showing and proved they belong to be there. the week after the grudge match the wind turned hard onshore courtesy of a non-tropical low off the coast. it pounded the north east with a ton of rain and flooded many locations. instead of mind surfing giant storm surf, i decided to head to long island with some friends. rockaway was double overhead and sideshore offshore.
With governor schwarzenegger's initiative for merit-based teacher pay lacking the necessary number of signatures to land it on a november ballot, california educators can rest a little easier. a little. the issue of the state's shaky education system remains a topic of heated debate and will not fade away soon. over the past decade, california students have scored among the lowest nationwide on the naep national assessment of education progress ; in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics and science, ranking below such states as alabama, texas and kansas, which have been criticized for their problematic public education systems. most californians want to improve schools, but no one wants to foot the bill. during the pre-reagan era, before prop 13 was passed, california schools were among the best in the nation. proposition 13 limits the annual growth of state property tax, and modifying it would be the obvious solution to the state's education woes. the governor plans, however, do not seem to be heading in this direction. when advisor warren buffett recommended changing it, schwarzenegger dismissed the issue, saying, "i told warren that if he mentions proposition 13 again, he has to do 500 sit-ups." this attitude does not necessarily reflect poorly on the governor. there is an unofficial taboo on raising any kind of tax in california, and altering prop 13 has long been considered political suicide. if schwarzenegger wants to keep his job and "fix" the schools at the same time, he'll have to get creative. so how do you improve a school system without any money? the governor claims to know. he proposed an emergency election to be held this november to pass ballot initiatives that will drastically affect public school teachers. currently, teacher salary in california under the tenure system is based upon the number of years a teacher has taught. critics have argued that this system refuses to acknowledge how well teachers actually do their jobs. hypothetically, a bad teacher can receive a higher salary than a good teacher. this possibility, coupled with the fact that california teachers are the highest paid nationwide as of 2003 ; , leads to the conclusion that a large amount of money is being wasted on incompetent educators. schwarzenegger.
